After finishing school in 2008, Chloe fired off e-mails to women’s teams all over the United States, but ended up racing for the Moving Ladies club in Holland on the recommendation of Dutch professional Martine Bras. She flew to Europe using a return plane ticket given to her by her family as an 18th birthday present. She then partly funded her stay in the Netherlands with money saved while working as a waitress in Canberra.
Chloe Hosking has the distinct honor of racking up HTC-Columbia's first 2010 win, at the Australian Criterium Championships.
For the young Australian, signing with HTC-Columbia for 2010 isn’t just the opportunity to turn pro with a world-class team that every amateur dreams of getting. It’s also a huge chance for the 19-year-old to learn a whole lot more about her speciality, sprinting.
Chloe describes herself as a “pure sprinter” who aspires to soon rival the fastest finishers in the women’s peloton, team-mate Ina Teutenberg and Kirsten Wild. “I try to be pretty explosive, but I’m still young and learning what I can do,” she says, "I know the learning curve’s going to be a steep one in my first year. That said, I’ll be with the best at HTC-Columbia. So I know I can only go forward, and at the end of the day, that’s what counts.”
An avid reader, Chloe picks George Orwell’s 1984 as her favorite book. She was less impressed with Animal Farm…
