An exciting day of racing in the Tour of Chongming Island saw Ina-Yoko Teutenberg both claim the stage victory and strengthen her overall lead after she and her five HTC-Highroad team-mates forged a winning breakaway group.
“It was a well-deserved team victory, the whole team helped create the breakaway in the crosswinds and they all got into the move,” said HTC-Highroad team director Ronny Lauke.
“They made the move in some crosswinds after about 80 kilometres just when the pack had slowed down, probably thinking there’d be a bunch sprint.
“With no radio communication, they acted on their own initiative, got all six riders in a front group of 16 and decided that they’d keep going. “Today’s win was about everybody in the team and I'm very proud of all of them.”
Teutenberg won the sprint and now has a 17 second advantage on her closest rival.
"The girls did just an amazing job putting the peleton into the gutter with 45k to go. I was protected all the way and super stoked to finish off their hard work," said Teutenberg.
