Wood wins in New Zealand and takes yellow
February 28, 2008
Oenone Wood improved her position on the podium in the Tour of New Zealand's second stage, this time taking the win and in doing so, the yellow jersey. The second stage consisted of 94km from Martinborough to Masterton with a challenging climb not far from the finish. As with stage One a break of 15 riders formed and gained over three minutes on the bunch. High Road had Wood, Chantal Beltman and Judith Arndt in the break. The break managed to stay away and High Road put their efforts into getting Wood over the line first. Wood, Beltman and Cervelo Lifeforce rider Kristin Armstrong are the only three riders who were present in both the winning break from stage one and from stage two and therfore the trio have just under a minutes advantage on the next riders going into stage three.
