Eisel wins again in Algarve
February 24, 2008
High Road's Bernhard Eisel won the final stage of Volta ao Algarve today taking the sprint out of the breakaway group of nine riders which held off the chasing peloton in an exciting finish. Team Director Tristan Hoffmann said that a breakaway was their plan. "We said before the race that if there was a break then we would be in it. Once the break got away we were confident that Eisel could pull it off." The break of nine went away after about 30km of racing and gained five minutes on the field. The group worked well together and continued to do so until the finish. The peloton was in full chase behind and brought the gap down to under 40 seconds in the last kilometers. By the line there was only 50 meters between the break and the bunch and Eisel took the sprint for the win. Over the last few years, Eisel has won five stages in Algarve.
