Teutenberg wins bunch sprint in Geelong
February 24, 2008
Ina-Yoko Teutenberg won the bunch sprint in the first World Cup of the season today in Geelong, Australia, giving her third place behind breakaway riders Katheryn Mattis (Webcor) and Emma Rickards (Cervelo Lifeforce). The race was aggressive from the start with a large group getting away early in the race. Midway through the race, Team High Road reeled in the break, letting a counterattack of two riders go up the road to take over 6 minutes on the field. High Road put the team on the front later in the race to bring them back but the pair was too strong and remained away. Teutenberg took the bunch sprint for third place. "It's a little disappointing for us as the team was very strong today," said Teutenberg, "but we feel good about the way we raced. Everybody in the team raced together for a single purpose and that's important."
