Columbia-HTC's Maxime Monfort completed the 52km Belgian National Time Trial Championship event in Saint Ghislain on Saturday in a time of 1 hour and 5 minutes to take his first ever National Time Trial Title.
The course was "flat with just a little bit of false flat. So not really what I like," said Monfort. "But I'm really happy because on the first lap I was two seconds behind [Sébastien] Rosseler and I had to give all in the last lap to take the lead.
"I was lucky to have the time to do some specific preparation on my time trial bike over the last ten days and it was really hard, but I took it seriously. I wanted to stay really stayed focussed after the Tour and that was physically and mentally not easy.
"But I had also had a lot motivation because all my family and supporters were present. It worked."
