February 17, 2008
Team High Road had a strong start to the Tour of California today placing second and fifth in the prologue with three others finishing in the top 14. The team goes into stage one with both the Sprint Jersey and the Young riders jersey on the backs of Bradley Wiggins and Edvald Boassen Hagen respectively. High Road put some of their strength on the road early with Australian National Time Trial Champion Adam Hansen posting s solid time of 4’05” over a 3.4km stage in Palo Alto. Young Norwegian Time Trial Champion came through later with an impressive time of 3’57”, a time that earned him the young rider’s jersey and fifth place overall and Wiggins was one of the latter starters posting a leading time of 3’55”. He held the lead until World Champion Fabian Cancellara (CSC) finished four second ahead. Tomorrow’s stage starts in Sausalito and travels 156km to Santa Rosa for what will likely be a sprint finish. High Road will be looking to set up either of its young sprint stars Mark Cavendish or Gerald Ciolek. The High Road Women’s team will also be in Santa Rosa for the Criterium that takes place before the men’s race comes through.
