Teutenberg and Anderson take a 1, 2 win at Route de France
August 15, 2008
Team Columbia took it's fourth stage win at Route de France on Friday with Ina-Yoko Teutenberg and Kim Anderson placing first and second in stage five.
With Luise Keller currently in the overall race lead, the team spent the day covering attacks to protect the jersey. With 35km remaining in the 130km race, Anderson and Teutenberg found themselves in a nine person break.
Team Gauss worked the break and the group finished the race 30 seconds ahead of the bunch.
With two kilometers remaining Teutenberg countered an attack by Anderson and opened up a gap. She soloed to the finish with 12 to spare on the rest of the break. Anderson won the uphill sprint finish to take second place.
"This has been a really great race for us so far," said Teutenberg. "It's really nice to have Lui in the leaders jersey. It wasn't our intention to go for the stage win today but an opportunity opened up right at the end when we were covering breaks."
Keller finished safely in the bunch to keep the overall lead and Anderson moved herself up to sixth place in the General Classification going into the penultimate stage.
