Keller defends German Road Title
June 30, 2008
Luise Keller was successful in defending her German National Title today. Taking the win solo in similar style to the previous year, 24 year old Keller earned to honour of wearing National Champion jersey for yet another year.
"It's unbelievable," said Keller. "I can't believe I can wear the jersey for another year. I have to thank my team. It just goes to show again why cycling is called a teamsport. I only won because we worked so well together."
With team-mate Anke Wichmann and Madeleine Sandig elected as the riders to go in early breaks, Keller, Judith Arndt and Ina-Yoko Teutenberg could relax early. Wichmann got herself into the early break and stayed there all day.
As other riders bridged and were dropped, Wichmann managed to stay in the front and attaked solo in the penultimate lap. With Wichmann up the road, the other riders in the break were forced to chase. As they reach the final climb on the last lap, Wichmann was almost caught and Keller attacked and managed to hold of the chase to the finish.
"Anke did a great job and I would also have been very happy if she had won," added Keller.
