Boasson Hagen, Fahlin and Villumsen earn National Titles
June 28, 2008
Edvald Boasson Hagen, Emilia Fahlin and Linda Villumsen won their respective National Titles today continuing the stream of National Championship success for High Road riders.
Boasson Hagen successfully defended his Norwegian Time Trial Title winning the 50km race against the clock by a minute.
The women's team's youngest rider Emilia Fahlin achieved a career best winning the Swedish Road Championships.
On a very challenging course Fahlin broke away at the 1km mark. She was later joined by two others icluding former world champion Susanne Ljungskog. She attacked them again later in the race but they bridged to her again. On the final climb Fahlin was dropped, but fought to get back on and attacked again with 3km to go. She soloed to the line for an amazing victory.
"It was a really hard race because I was in a break from the first kilometer," commented Fahlin. "I actually didn't think I would have a chance to win this race because it was such a tough course, so crossing the line first was unbelievable."
After winning the Danish Time Trial Championships on Thursday, Villumsen came back today to win the road race, taking her fourth National Title.
