Teutenberg wins stage 2 of RaboSter "Zeeuwsche Eilanden"
June 20, 2008
High Road's Ina-Yoko Teutenberg has won the second stage of the three day RaboSter "Zeeuwsche Eilanden" in a bunch sprint from race leader Kirsten Wild.
Wild had a lead of ten seconds over Teutenberg going into the first stage, after winning the opening 7.1km prologue.
"We wanted to play our cards today,"explained team Director Petra Rossner, "so we were pretty agressive and also wanted Ina to get time bonuses."
Teutenberg won both time bonuses with Wild placing second and therefore gained two second on Wild within the stage.
"It was pretty windy out there," explained Teutenberg, "and there was a lot of attacking so I'm surprised no breaks stayed away."
Teutenberg's teammate Kate Bates attacked with four kilometers to go in the race and again at three kilometers to go forcing Wild's AA Drink team to chase. Teutenberg won the bunch sprint from Wild and Angela Brodtka (DSB Bank), gaining another four seconds on Wild.
"I was in a good position with 200m to go when the sprint opened up," said Teutenberg, " and I was able to come around Brodtka for the win. I'm happy with the win and I'm also happy my teammates are not hurt because Anke [Wichmann] and Chantal [Beltman] crashed pretty badly today.
Teutenberg now trails Wild by five seconds now with one stage remaining.
