RANCHO BERNARDO - His Columbia-Highroad cycling team is as international as any team in any sport could be these days.
Check out those 20 national flag decals on the team's support vehicles. There's one for every home country of the riders, coaches and support staff.
The world's "best cycling team" is more than international, it's "post-national," as owner/general manager Bob Stapleton, a Riverside native, was describing it recently.
And sure enough, the team that won the most races in the world last year, 85 for the men and 68 for the women, in its first season in the sport, could throw its own Olympics. Team members come from three continents and countries as diverse as Latvia, New Zealand, Belarus, Luxembourg and the USA.
