With possibly no tears left, Mark Cavendish won Stage 6 of the Tour de France on Friday, stepping onto the stage to accept his award completely dry eyed. One day earlier, in the same exact spot, he could not stop weeping after winning Stage 5. But this time, Cavendish, who rides for the HTC-Columbia team, was looking proud and confident after edfing his biggest rivals at the finish line.
For the rider who puts a premium on perfection, all was back to normal.
"He wants everything to be just right, from that final sprint to every piece of clothing and every piece of equipment that connects to his body," Bob Stapleton, the owner of the HTC-Columbia team, said. "If things dont go exactly his way, he gets very, very angry. But if things go his way, it's the opposite. There's not a happier guy around. But he's all about the details."
