A world-class event, say cycling heavyweights

It was our grandest tour of all.  A record crowd of 762,000, some of the biggest names in international cycling and an event which officials say has cemented the Santos Tour Down Under on the world stage.

"This is an all-time record, not only for the Tour Down Under but any sporting event in the history of South Australia," Premier Mike Rann announced at yesterday's presentation for tour-winner Andre Greipel of Germany and stage-winner Chris Sutton of Australia.
