Welcome to my new blog on Versus! I am so thrilled to be able to write and share my perspective on a sport, which may have never become a part of my life without Versus. I remember watching Versus’ TV coverage of cycling races back in high school, and dreaming of how amazing it would be racing at that level one day. It is funny how things work out sometimes. The best way to kick start this blog would be to let you know a little about myself and how I became involved in cycling. Born and raised in South Carolina, I began cycling, or really any sporting activity for that matter, at a fairly late age of seventeen. My curiosity of the outdoors eventually brought me into mountain biking, which led to a job at a local bike shop. Eventually, I traded in the knobby tires for slicks. Looking back on that first ride on the road, pushing myself up and over hills with the first taste of lactic acid running through my body, I fell in love with the freedom it brought and the fact that I could really push my limits on the bike. Later that same day I hit a retaining wall at 50mph. The impact shattered my new bike, but not my new found addiction. I was hooked.
