Remembering Carla Swart
Carla was a part of the Highroad family for a short time but her vibrant zest for life and beautiful character will live in our hearts each day forward.
Carla was from South Africa and loved her homeland. We symbolize this in our simple tribute to her. She also loved bike racing, all bike racing in every form, in all conditions, against any competitor. Her passion and talent led her to success and a promising future. Racing for Lees-McRae College, she won national collegiate titles in all categories: road, mountain bike, cyclocross and track. In 2010 she took 10th place in the UCI World Road Championships, an amazing result for such a young rider. She was intensely focused on her big goal of becoming one of the best in the world with HTC-Highroad in the coming years.

Carla’s Circle Fund
Above all, Carla was a loving daughter and sister. In a recent interview she explained how she was inspired by her parents. The Swart family immigrated to the United States in 2003 as her father Deon was brave enough to start a new life in an unfamiliar country so that Carla would have great opportunities. She admired her mother for her constant support and dedication to her family while at the same time fighting serious illness. Karen Swart was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis 20 years ago. Her mother’s strength always inspired Carla to do well. Carla’s ambitions included personally raising money in the fight against this painful and debilitating disease.
Carla’s Circle is a fund that we created to help Carla's family and to help them continue Carla's interests. Direct donations can be made below with 100% of the proceeds going to the Swart Family.
Our wishes go out to Carla's family and loved ones.

I remember when I first met you when you came to the US and enrolled in South Forsyth. We've been friends ever since and we will always be. Thank you for being one of the best friends I ever had. You had a huge heart and were such a sweet person, always looking out for me. I'll never forget the times with our team, in Cross Country, all of our meets and bus rides, and of course going to camp and being the 2 JCIT's from South! Or going to homecoming our senior year together and then ditching everyone else early and hanging out afterwards together. Or all of our camping trips to lake lanier and the native american reservation and Rosie and the gang. Thank you for giving me memories I can smile at when I look back at those times. Without you, I wouldn't have nearly as many. You were so very talented in everything you did, especially cycling, and I did expect you to be an Olympian for sure. I will never forget my dear friend Carla, or Safrica, :) as I nicknamed you. Rest in Peace.
Love, Shaina.

I will never forget the first time I met you at our first race years ago. Your vibrant personality and fiery red hair was a sight not to be missed. Over the years, we raced together as teammates, against each other in collegiate, and danced nights away on Halloween. I will miss your enthusiasm for life and the happiness that you always brought when you were around.

Red Trek 2 sizes too big, helmet off to one side, running late. You loved every minute of it. You inspired everyone you met. You were taken from us way too soon. You will always be remembered.
